Post-Operative Care

After your pet has had an operation, our nurses are here to support your pet’s post operative care.

Post-operative checks

Our nurses are trained to assess wound healing and identify early signs of complications. They will assess your pet’s recovery from anaesthesia and ensure they are comfortable. It is normal to have two visits following your pet’s operation at between one and three days, and again between 10- and 14-days post-op to ensure the wound is healed before your pet resumes normal activity.

Post neutering checks

Following a neutering procedure, we invite you back after six weeks to check your pet’s weight. Neutering can alter the metabolism in both male and female dogs and cats and make them more susceptible to weight gain. A simple adjustment to their feeding quantities can help prevent your pet from becoming overweight. These clinics are a great opportunity for our nurses to teach you how to Body Condition Score your pet, so that you know how to tell if they are beginning to gain weight and can offer advice on a suitable diet and correct feeding quantities.
