Your Kitten's First Vet Visit
Chances are your kitten's first visit to the vet will be for their vaccinations. If your kitten has already had their vaccinations at a breeder or rescue you may want to take advantage of our ‘free new pet check’. At this visit you will get to meet one of our friendly Pet Vets who will health check your kitten and ensure all your questions are answered, as well as providing a nice socialisation experience.
Vaccinations
There are a number of fatal infectious diseases that can affect cats in the UK. Having your cat vaccinated is the only safe way to provide immunity against these diseases and if carried out, yearly boosters can protect your cat for life. Primary kitten vaccinations involve a two-part course, with vaccinations being given 3 to 4 weeks apart. The first vaccination can be given as early as 9 weeks of age depending on the brand used. The second vaccination is given at 12 weeks of age at the earliest.
Kitten Pack
At your vaccination appointment you will receive a kitten pack. This pack contains various goodies including a toy and a hard copy of ‘All About Your New Kitten’.
Parasites
Your breeder is likely to have given your kitten their first few doses of worming treatment. Check when this was last done and what product was used. When you first visit us with your kitten, we will help you to find the best product to carry on their protection. Microchipping
From June 2024 microchipping will be a legal requirement for cats over 20 weeks old. You will also need to ensure that the details associated with your cat’s microchip are kept up to date. For more information about microchipping, take a look at our handy guide.
