Dental treatment may involve general anaesthesia of your pet and an assessment of their mouth. Similar to when a human dentist examines you, each tooth has a specific number to identify it, and the health of the tooth and associated gum can be graded. Any other abnormalities in the mouth are noted. The teeth can be scaled to remove tartar and then polished to help prevent new plaque and tartar accumulation.

Radiography of the mouth and the tooth roots is useful to identify any issues hidden under the gums. Appropriate treatment or extraction of teeth can be implemented as necessary.
